Jomsvikings, pt. 2

I'm a bit rushed this week as we get ready for the Big Move.  No, I'm not moving, sadly.  My son is soon off to the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and there is much to be done before we load up the minivan to drop him off.  My wife is taking it quite hard.  All of a sudden, I am too.  I was cleaning the minivan for the long drive when it really hit me. When I think of all of the fantastic opportunities that await him, I feel much better.  I'll concentrate on that.

I was telling Grant that back in my day, I lived in the cheapest dorm on campus and we had one payphone for the whole wing.  Thank goodness for Skype and FaceTime!

So, back to the Joms.  These hearthguard are Gripping Beast. Once again, they're great figures to paint and the Joms may be my favorite GB models ever!

For those readers who are playing Saga and thinking about a Joms warband, here's a link to 4 pages of discussion on tactics for running Jomsvinkings. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Ev! We need more variety in our local Saga diet. Hopefully, I won't choke on these when I have to fight them!

    1. Thanks Scott. I did leave the Dark Ages palette behind on these fellows. I figured if anyone could bring the color, it'd be well paid mercenaries!

  8. Solid as always Monty. The bright colours just pop out. Regarding your son, hold fast. This kind of stuff is never easy, but it seems to come upon us anyways.

  9. Colorful group. Your treatment of the axes (both handle and blade) is very sharp. Ouch.

    As for your son's departure, seems like stretching or severing the tether is often harder on the mom. Remember how exciting the new adventure was for you when you were off on your own for the first time.

    Good luck to all three of you!

  10. Nice work,again, Monty! We've just started the series "Vikings" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2306299/) here in Australia, so I'm quite partial to your current project!

    As to you and your wife's struggle with letting go, it sounds very hard. I'm sure not looking forward to it, though knowing us, the kids will not move out til they're 30! :-D

  11. Great (and fierce!) looking axemen. I really like how you've painted the wooden parts.

    As for your son leaving ... My son just turned 2, so I have a while yet before I'm in the same seat. But when that day comes, I know it will be a tough one. Still, it's all part of life I guess!

  16. Hi Monty,

    good work as usual! they are terrific opponents to anyone who is enough silly to unleash their wrath! ;-)
    you must be proud of your talented son my friend! letting him fly out of the family nest is of course difficult but think of all the things he will learn on his passion and it 's also a reward for the work he done for it;
    I wish to him all the best;
    perhaps he will have the principal Powers for Principal as in Sky high;-)

    have a good trip with your family in minivan, please think positive and keep the eye of tiger;-)

    the bell has not rang, get up and turn back fighting mate!;-)

    Cheers
