Old West Civilians & a kick in the rear

Up today is the last batch of figures for Dead Man's Hand.  I was glad to find a woman in the lot.  In addition to her sterling figure, she was the perfect excuse to bust out Reaper's MSP yellow triad.  Once again, Great Escape Games has served up an eclectic mix of characters including Billy the Kiddie.  This was a fun set to paint and I'm looking forward to an Old West game down the line.

This week, I went into work only to learn that I'd been furloughed and had 30 minutes to shut down and go home without pay.  Since the furlough was a slow train coming, I'd already grabbed some painting contracts to stay busy. Never one to miss an opportunity, my wife also gave me a "Honey Do" list. Once I saw none of her "Dos" involved painting, I chucked it.  Kidding!  I'd like to remain a married man so I'll work on her projects as well as the Saga contracts.  I'm spending long hours at the painting table to keep from moping around the house. Thank goodness for this hobby of ours!

  1. Ouch. But youwere right to use the yellow on your female character. I like her. Cheers

  2. The yellow triad is not the only thing being "busted out" on your female character...

Enjoy your furlough if you can.

    1. LOL, yes, that is certainly true.

So I told the story about how we loved to play Boot Hill in my younger years. In one evening's game, one of our players fell in love with and married a saloon gal. The other players kept teasing about being former customers of the bride so a gunfight broke out between the players in game. We members of the male species can be so predictable at times, even in our RPGs.

    2. Some things never change.

What is the rest of the story? Did the husband uphold the "soiled dove's" honor by extinguishing his interlopers in the gunfight?

    3. Of course, the husband threw down on our insulting player and in a nice stroke of justice, killed him. It did bring the game to an end for the night since the arguing and insults didn't stop with the in game death. RPG off the rail!

  5. I like that big guy with the beard, he's not a man to be trifled with.

I hope this furlough is short and that you receive back pay when it is over. In the meantime, keep your chin up and a brush in your hand. I'll keep you and your family in my prayers Monty.

    1. Anne, thanks so much. That means a lot to me.

This follows on top of all of the scheduled unpaid days over the summer so it's just another kick. And it looks like this is the way we'll be doing business for as far as the eye can see. Big sigh!

  6. Love the pose on the chap in the red shirt! Also particularly like that paint combo with the yellow there. Good luck with the time off, and hope you get some kind of reward from putting a dent in the 'honey do' list!

  11. Cracking paintjobs again! Your yellow maiden turned out especially nice.
Sorry to hear about your furlough. It's always the little men caught in the mess who have to face the music while those accountable carry on as before.

    1. Thanks Chris! I've never put in longer hours at a sitting than the last 3 days. I'll be earning the nickname "Ol' Ironbackside" soon enough!

    2. You mean Ol' Leadbottom don't you?

    3. Yea, that rolls off the tongue, and Ironbackside doesn't! Good one!

  15. I don't trust that duded-up feller in the top hat - turn your back for two minutes and he'll have Miss Kitty tied to the railroad track...

These are excellent, Monty, terrific work!

    2. The yellow looks to have worked extremely well, BTW.

And Miss Kitty certainly looks as though she'd give any potential villain a run for his money; I wouldn't be casting aspersions on her honour anytime soon!
